Kathryn
joined the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) in 1997. She managed
the $185 million contract negotiations between UTA and the
Union Pacific Railroad that culminated in the largest land
transfer between a freight railroad and a public transit agency
in the United States. She also successfully lobbied the Utah
Legislature to directly apportion funds to the UTA to finance
the rail extension to the University of Utah’s campus
if alternative financing was unavailable. For these efforts
the Utah Business Magazine recently recognized Kathryn as
one of 30 women crucial to Utah’s economic prosperity.
Kathryn earned a bachelor’s degree in communication
from the University of Utah. She also received a master’s
in speech communication and a Juris Doctorate from the University
of New Mexico. Prior to joining the UTA, she was a shareholder
in the law firm of Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy
in Salt Lake City where she represented clients from a variety
of industries. She currently sits on the board of directors
for Zions Bank.
