President and CEO, Wing Enterprises, Inc.
The Individual as the Human Resource
Harold R. Wing was born in Springville,
Utah on March 5, 1940. He attended Utah public schools, Brigham
Young University, and the University of Utah. He served in
the United States Army in Germany from 1958 though 1961. While
there, he met and married German native Brigitte Mayer. Together
they raised seven children.
After his military service, Mr. Wing worked on the Production
and Quality Control staff of Munz Aluminum Giesserei GmbH
in Heilbronn, Germany. He served as a translator and coordinator
for the U.S. Government and taught English at the Berlitz
language institute in Heilbronn.
Returning from Germany, Mr. Wing joined the production control
staff of Hercules, Inc. in Salt Lake City where he served
for five years. He also began selling life insurance for Beneficial
Life Insurance Company. In 1970, he moved to Beneficial Life’s
West Germany agency. Mr. Wing outperformed all other agents
combined and within eighteen months his creative sales methods
led the West Germany Agency to be named ‘Agency of the
Year’.
It was at that time that Mr. Wing became acquainted with
a German inventor and his telescoping combination step and
extension ladder. Immediately recognizing the potential of
this new product, Mr. Wing obtained the marketing and manufacturing
rights for North America and brought the ladder to the United
States. He single-handedly sold over a half-million dollars
of product the first year.
From modest beginnings in his family carport, Mr. Wing has
stimulated and directed the growth of Wing Enterprises, Inc.
into an international, multi-million dollar manufacturing
and marketing corporation. He has patented seven improvements
on the original ladder and successfully marketed three special
purpose ladders, a scaffolding system, and a number of ladder
accessories. Today, Wing Enterprises, Inc. is housed in a
modern manufacturing facility in Springville, Utah.
Mr. Wing is an avid sportsman, he enjoys dirt biking, riding
horses, boating, and basically anything that moves fast. While
snowmobiling, he observed that emergencies can and do arise
that necessitate walking through deep snow. He immediately
began to develop, patent, and market a new product, Powderwings;
a compactable snowshoe that fits into a fanny pack. Mr. Wing
conceived of a mono snowmobile, the Polar Blast, which is
under development.
Wing Enterprises, Inc. developed, patented, and manufactured
the successful Quick Draw Hitching Systems. In 1999, West
Wing Contractors, a construction company specializing in entry-level
and mid-range priced homes was established. Mr. Wing owns
Allsize Storage, a three million dollar storage complex, rental
property, an 88-acre horse ranch in Fairview, a 54-acre farm
located in Palmyra, and a farm in Springville’s western
agricultural area.
Mr. Wing is very active in church, civic affairs, and serves
on the board of directors of a number of corporations. He
is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who
in the West, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Men
of Achievement, and was selected as a candidate for the 1982
Freedom Festival Man of the Year Award. In 1986, Mr. Wing
was invited to serve as a representative at President Reagan’s
