Former Vice President of Finance, The Wiremold Company
Lean Accounting
Mr. Orest Fiume was the vice president of Finance
and Administration and a director of The Wiremold
Company in West Hartford, Connecticut. He was the
company’s senior financial officer from 1978
until his retirement in 2002. In 1991, he led Wiremold’s
conversion to Lean accounting and developed alternate
accounting systems that support more than 20 acquisitions.

recognized Wiremold as a leader in Lean business management.
Orry studied Lean production in both the U.S. and
Japan. He has been a guest speaker at many conferences,
and he has taught seminars on Lean accounting at the
University of Dayton, The Center for Lean Business
Management, the TBM Institute and Connstep. He also
was a member of the People to People Program’s
Economic Management Delegation to China. His co-authored
book, Real Numbers: Management Accounting in a Lean
Organization, was awarded a Shingo Research Prize
in 2004.
He holds a bachelor’s in accounting from Fairfield
University and a master’s in management from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Orry is a member
of Financial Executives International, where he is
a past president of the Connecticut Valley Chapter.
He is also a certified public accountant, and he serves
on several Boards of Directors. In 2003, Orry was
inducted into the Shingo Prize Academy.
